Katie Glading

Assistant Principal Trombone

Originally from Kansas, Katie Glading is a distinguished trombonist and music educator based in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Trombone Performance and Music Education from Fort Hays State University and her Master’s degree in Trombone Performance from the University of North Texas. Currently, Katie is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance at the University of North Texas, where she also serves as a Teaching Fellow and private low brass instructor in the DFW Metroplex. Her principal mentors include Natalie Mannix, Tony Baker, Tim Owner, and Lane Weaver.


Prior to relocating to Texas for her graduate studies, Katie served as a middle and high school band director in Kansas. Notable achievements from this period include founding a high school jazz band program and hosting the NCAA League Band. Her students consistently excelled in auditions and competitions, earning numerous I ratings and participating in Kansas Music Educators Association honor bands.
 

As a performer, Katie has explored a diverse range of musical settings, including pit orchestras, symphony orchestras, and British-style brass bands. In the spring of 2023, she won the North American Brass Band Association Trombone Slow Melody competition and performed with the Dallas Brass Band during their inaugural Championship Level year. Having been a member of the band since 2021, Katie has held positions as both 2nd trombone and Assistant Principal, contributing to the band’s First Section victory.
