The Dallas Youth Brass Band

About Us

The Dallas Brass Band is committed toward nurturing the next generation of brass and percussion musicians of North Texas by fostering a passion for excellence and a lifelong appreciation for the brass band tradition. After the successful debut of the Dallas Youth Brass Band High School and Middle School Ensembles at the Texas Brass Festival, the Dallas Youth Brass Band returns once more for a 5-day summer institute to provide an unparalleled educational experience including mentorship from our accomplished musicians and a supportive community where young artists develop their skills, creativity, and musical leadership.​​

Middle school and high school students of all levels and ages are encouraged to register.

Get to know our Music Directors

Brad Brooks

Middle School Music Director and Youth Band Coordinator

Brad Brooks grew up in Lewisville, Texas, attending Lewisville High School under the direction of Dr. Marty Courtney. Brad earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Texas Woman’s University, where he was a member of the TWU Wind Symphony under the baton of Dr. Carter Biggers. Since graduating in 2022, Brad has accumulated several years of teaching experience. He began his teaching career at Carroll Middle School in Carroll ISD, where he directed the Concert Band and taught beginner brass classes. Under his direction, the CMS Concert Band consistently earned Superior Ratings at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations and at the North Texas Festival of Distinction. Brad currently serves as a band director at Hays Middle School in Prosper ISD, continuing his work with Concert Band and beginner brass instruction. In addition to his work in education, Brad has served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 2015. His military experience includes roles as a Drill Sergeant, Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, and currently as a Bandsman with the 395th Army Band. Brad has been a part of the Dallas Brass Band since 2023, serving as the 2nd trombonist. In 2024, Brad co-founded the Dallas Youth Brass Band serving as the Middle School Band Music Director. In 2025 Brad was elected as the Youth Band Coordinator for the organization.

Grant Jameson

High School Music Director and Dallas Brass Band Music Director

Originally from Dublin, Ohio, Grant Jameson has built an international career spanning the United States and the United Kingdom. He earned both his Bachelor of Music and Master’s degrees from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in Cardiff, where he studied with David Childs for six years. While in the UK, Grant became immersed in the British brass band tradition, earning accolades, including Best Soloist at the Welsh Open in 2014. He has appeared as guest soloist with many of the UK’s ensembles, including Cory, Grimethorpe Colliery, Brighouse and Rastrick, and Fodens.

 

Grant has held principal euphonium positions with Tredegar Town, Tongwynlais, and Woodfalls bands, and later joined the Flowers Band, with whom he achieved contest successes and was featured as a soloist. His performances include movements from Sir Karl Jenkins’ Euphonium Concerto on Flowers’ recording Celebrate! – 50 Years of Flowers.

 

An accomplished chamber musician, Grant won the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition three times (2013, 2014, 2016) and gave several world premieres with his award-winning euphonium quartet. In 2015, he won the RWCMD Concerto Competition, performing Joseph Horovitz’s Euphonium Concerto with the RWCMD Orchestra, and appeared as a soloist with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. That same year, he became the first American to win the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award.

 

Grant has released two solo albums, Genesis (2015) and Versatility Reimagined (2019), and has been featured on BBC and S4C broadcasts. Now based in Texas, he serves as Principal Euphonium of the Dallas Winds and Musical Director of the Dallas Brass Band. An educator and conductor, he co-founded the Dallas Youth Brass Band in 2024, helping nurture the next generation of brass musicians while continuing an active international performing career.
